Baseball Season is in Full Swing
Posted by Sports Integrity on
The latest season of Major League Baseball® is now approximately 60 games old, which means there are about 100 games left before the playoffs begin. That can seem like a long time, but before you know it, it will be October and two teams will be battling for the World Series title. Will the Chicago Cubs find the same magic they did last year when they ended their 108-year world championship drought? Will the red-hot Houston Astros continue their dominance and cruise to their first title in franchise history?
A lot can happen over the course of a professional baseball season, and if you’re a true fan, you stick around for it all. If you’re looking for baseball memorabilia to add to your collection, Sports Integrity has an amazing selection from which to choose.
The Iconic Baseball
Nearly everyone around the world knows the iconic look of a white baseball with red laces. These small orbs have become the stuff of legends, depending on who hurled them 100 MPH to record the last out of a big game, or smashed one over the fence to win a World Series title (we’re looking at you, Joe Carter). Fans who ended up with these baseballs have either cherished them for years and passed them down to the next generation, or they attempted to cash in on the value of the ball. In our store, we can’t account for what fans do with the baseballs they snag at a game, but our collection of autographed balls has something for every fan, no matter how old or young they may be.
We have baseballs that were signed as recently as last year’s World Series, with a couple of options from Addison Russell, the star shortstop for the Cubs whose hitting and fielding proved pivotal when the North Siders captured their first championship since 1908. We also have an autographed ball from the 1961 Yankees featuring 24 player signatures, including Yogi Berra, Roger Maris, and Whitey Ford. Older baseball fans know that 1961 was the year that Maris (fittingly) hit 61 home runs to break fellow Yankee Babe Ruth’s previous single-season record of 60. There was some debate surrounding the home run record that year, as Commissioner Ford Frick challenged that Maris’ record should have an asterisk next to it, as Maris had 162 games in which to hit his homers, whereas the Great Bambino did it 154 games in 1927. Nevertheless, Maris cemented his name in both Yankee and baseball lore, right next to fellow greats such as his teammate Mickey Mantle.
There’s plenty of baseball left to play this season, and if you’re thinking about starting or adding to your memorabilia collection, look through our categories today. You’ll find signed baseballs, bats, posters, and more, and if you have questions about any of our products, we’ll be more than happy to answer them. Who knows? The collectibles you buy now may be in your family for generations to come!
